What to Look For in an Orlando Tax Resolution Firm

If you owe the IRS and live in Orlando or Central Florida, the person you hire matters more than the ad you clicked. IRS debt does not wait, and the wrong firm costs you time you do not have. Here are seven things to check before you sign anything.

  1. Who is licensed to speak to the IRS for you. Only attorneys, CPAs and enrolled agents have full rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Ask which one will work your case.
  2. Who actually does the work. Ask whether the person you meet is the person who handles your file.
  3. Do they pull your IRS records first. A serious firm reviews your IRS transcripts before it recommends anything.
  4. A written fee agreement. You should see the full fee, what it covers, and what is extra, before you pay.
  5. No promises about settling for pennies on the dollar. The IRS decides whether an Offer in Compromise is accepted. Anyone who guarantees an outcome before reviewing your records is a red flag.
  6. Experience with your kind of problem. Wage garnishment, bank levy, tax lien, payroll tax, unfiled returns and Revenue Officer cases are different problems.
  7. Local and reachable. Ask who you reach when the IRS sends a new letter.
